I have 6+yrs of software development experience and then I quit 2 yrs back, Now I want to get a PMP certificat

I wan to get a PMP certification, do you think its a good idea, and what would be my career options after that? Project Management? Is there something called an Entry level project management???

Any help in this regard would be truly appreciated.

PMP is definitely a good idea if you are bored of technical stuff and want to climb up the ladder faster. I think its the right time for you to make this change.
Reply:In order to get a PMP certification, you have to have at least 4 years of documented project management experience already under your belt.

If you are interested in project management, perhaps start out as a project coordinator, and work your way up, while studying the PMBOK from PMI, and work towards getting your PMP certification.
Reply:I would check out carefully what kind of companies you want to work in and see what they require. In many cases, PMP is overkill, especially in many of the Silicon Valley based companies that have very fast moving, innovative projects being implemented at any given time. PMP is good, but can be cumbersome and actually get in the way in some cases. Interview with companies you are interested in and see what they think. You'll be surprised how much opinions vary!
